A 2023 review by Colenso-Semple and colleagues found that menstrual cycle phase doesn’t reliably affect acute strength or your adaptations to resistance training, and that a lot of the phase-based research is methodologically shaky. That doesn’t mean your cycle has zero effect on how you feel, since plenty of women notice real differences in energy and perceived recovery.
